A Word from the Director

 

The ‘Institut de Formation d’Ingénieurs de Paris-Sud’, (IFIPS), trains engineers in a number of high-technology specialities - electronics and industrial computing, electrical engineering, optronics, materials and computer science.

IFIPS is situated on the campus of the prestigious Faculty of Sciences in Orsay, in a verdant environment only half-an-hour away from the centre of Paris. The Faculty is rich with many internationally renowned laboratories covering all the Scientific disciplines. This proximity to the laboratories and the research community, from which most teachers emerge, is a key asset of IFIPS. Among other advantages, it allows students who wish to continue their academic career beyond the Master level to undertake Doctorate studies.

But an engineer’s education should not be limited to a solid scientific and technical culture. It should also involve learning to live in a globalised world. Hence, IFIPS encourages its students to move abroad, whether for short academic periods or for internships. At the same time, IFIPS is especially proud to welcome students with a desire to pursue a part or the whole of their education at Orsay. As a student, going abroad today is a sort of adventure. It means discovering new cultures and building personal relationships which cross national boundaries. Later in life, you will realise that a network of contacts - so important for the careers of tomorrow - is more quickly built by studying abroad while still young.
